Church Youth Hungry for Love!
 No romantic
dinners and boxes of chocolates this Valentine's Day for 30 young people from
the Radlett churches! Instead, the 12 to 18 year olds joined in a 24 hour famine
to raise money for clean, safe drinking water for people in other countries. The
youngsters raised over £1000 for international development agency World Vision.
Radlett Churches' Youth Co-ordinator Sue Civval explained;
"We not only raised a lot of money to help people without access to safe
drinking water, but we also learned a lot about the problem. We take clean water
for granted, but so many people in the world can't do that. They travel miles to
collect water which when they get it is not safe to drink. It may not be the
traditional way to spend Valentine's Day, but it is all about love."
Speaking for World Vision, 24 hour Famine co-ordinator Sarah Coe said;
"It is so exciting young people in the UK are willing to go without food for a
day to help others who don't have the basics in life. Our aim is to raise over
half a million pounds to help whole communities have safe, clean water for the
first time."
World Vision, a Christian organisation, is one of the world's leading aid and
development agencies, working in almost 100 countries to help people in their
struggle against poverty, hunger and injustice.
