Record numbers of children attended the two days of Easter Eggstravaganza: more than 200 children came over the two days, which this year were Maundy Thursday and Holy Saturday. Both days ran from 11am to 3pm, which is also an extension over previous years.

And it is not just the numbers which get better year after year, the ideas for activities get more and more imaginative - and even more challenging too. This year the activities were focussed on the memory verses for each day. On Thursday it was "For God so loved the world he gave his one and only Son" (John 3:16) and on Saturday it was "We believe that Jesus died and rose again. (1 Thess 4:14).

So Thursday’s activities were centred on the cross, including Easter cards, which carried the memory verse, beautiful paintings which illustrated Easter story and, of course, the ever-popular cooking. Some children coloured a picture of the Easter story and then cut it up to make a jig-saw puzzle, each piece was then fitted with a paper clip put into a shoe-box to create a fishing game to take home!

The older ones used magnets to create an innovative travel game based on the familiar "noughts and crosses" - except the game had "fishes and crosses" and the board, of course, had the memory verse on it too.

We were fortunate that the weather was fine this year so the oldest groups could do their activities and games on the field. They even enjoyed their lunch in the sun - otherwise, with 176 children on site, the phrase "packed lunch" would have gained a whole new meaning!

On Saturday the focus changed to reflect the events after the resurrection, and many illustrated the account of Jesus meeting his disciples on the beach after a fruitless night’s fishing. The children made fishes out of paper, and pastry and, for the older ones, wood. They made boats and some very attractive pot-stands which also illustrated the story on tiles, which were taken home and fired in the oven.

Both days feature singing songs which are always enjoyed by all ages. More importantly it helps them learn the message, which this event is all about - as the words of the songs stick with them for months to come. Do pray that the truths learnt over these days will take root in the hearts of all who attended.

You can find more pictures from the event on our web site: www.radlettchurches.org.uk, which gives a better view than is possible in these pages - so do have a look if you can, or next year, why not come and join us! Finally a word of thanks to all those whose tireless efforts and inspired imagination make it all possible.
