messages were conveyed to the children using a creative blend of activities,
discussions and games - all tailor-made to for the various age groups ranging
from 4 to 14 years old. On Wednesday all the groups made altars like Elijah; the
youngest from card and acetate and the middle group from play-doh on tile bases,
whilst the older ones even had to go and find materials to make fire from the

Thursday, they made horns and lanterns like those in Gideon's army. The creative sessions were complemented by games and discussion groups, in which the meaning of the story and its relevance for the children's lives today were explored. On Thursday the top group went on a Treasure Hunt, and the younger ones did a puzzle, to help them piece together the key elements of the story. Elijah prayed, "O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God". And that is our prayer for all the 200 children who attended over the two days. Anyone visiting the site over those two days could not fail to sense the excitement and enjoyment that all involved radiated. We pray that the new insights learnt over these two days may stay with them for many years to come. |
